SodaStream Review and Giveaway

We have a large family, and during the week we go through a lot of beverages, and with birthday parties, holidays, summer bbq’s, we go through even more! Have you ever thought about making your own sparkling drinks at home? Whether it be sparkling water or natural cola, you can now do it at home with SodaStream!

SodaStream is the world’s largest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of Home Carbonation Systems. Our brands are sold in over 40,000 retail stores in 41 countries including home & electrical appliance stores, hypermarkets, supermarkets, department stores, convenience stores, DIY, specialty and “green” stores, water specialists & dealers, as well as online and in catalogs.

When the SodaStream machine arrived at my house, it was like Christmas in July, I kid you not. I was so surprised to see what I received in my box.

This is what I received! Genesis in black and a bunch of flavors to try!

I recevied the black Genesis to review, but in addition to the Genesis, they also have a Fountain Jet, Pure, Fizz, Crystal and Penguin. The machines are highly affordable, beginning in price from $79.95 for the Fountain Jet and moving upwards to $199.95 for the Penguin. There are a variety of flavors to choose from including regular, sparkling naturals, diet, sparkling tea, MyWater Essence, and energy drink. They even have a variety pack which you can use to make 1 liter bottles of a flavor before opening up the big bottles (which is what I’ve used so far). In addition to the machine and flavors, I also received another 1 liter bottle to store the soda in and a 2 pk of half liter bottles.

You can order SodaStream machines, flavors, and carbonator bottles (those are the bottles which house your finished product) and you can also reorder carbonators (this is the CO2 bottles which add the “fizz” to your drink) straight from SodaStreamUSA.com. If you would rather not order online, you can go into stores such as Kohl’s, Bed bath and beyond, Sears, Macy’s, Crate and Barrel and several other stores to purchase. You can find the complete list of SodaStream retailers on their website.

The SodaStream website is really informative. They even have a page on their website which talks about how their products help the environment. By making your soda at home, you are reducing your carbon footprint by reusing the same bottles over and over again, and you aren’t always having to run to the store to buy pop, tea or water! You are also using tap water to make your drinks, so you don’t need to buy any special fancy water!

In addition to the Genesis machine, I received several flavors for making soda, sparkling tea, water and a variety pack. I decided to use a some of the flavors from the single 1 liter bottle variety pack instead of opening up the larger bottles. We’ve already made Dr. Pete, Rootbeer, Fountain Mist, Lemon-Lime, and I tried the Orange Essence sparkling water. I have to say its VERY easy to make this soda. At first I was intimidated because of the CO2 cartridge, but its really a piece of cake.

To use:

Attach the CO2 cartridge to the inside of the machine.

Fill the 1 liter bottle with tap water to the fill line.

Attach the bottle filled with water, to the front of the machine..

Push the button at the top of the machine to add in the bubbles

Unscrew the bottle from the machine (it will make a sound like you just opened up a 2 liter of pop!).

Slowly tilt the bottle to the side to add in the recommended amount of flavoring (you must tilt it or it will bubble up and overflow..ask me how I know about that one!).

It’s that simple! 6 simple steps to making your own sparkling drinks at home. My kids were just as excited as I was to get this, and they are always asking me “Can you make some soda?” We don’t allow a lot of soda here, but we do occasionally make it for pizza night, family movie night, etc.. My daughter is having her 2nd birthday party in a few days, so I am actually planning on using this to cut costs and make some of the pop for the party since the CO2 carbonator makes over 100 liters of pop!
