Hot Tot Hair Care review and giveaway!
If you know me at all, you will know that from my numerous posts about natural parenting, that I use natural skin care products as well. I am pregnant and I am searching for a natural baby and skincare line right now, and Hot Tot has both!
Hot Tot is a company that is founded by a mother who has the same philosophy that I do…babies and children do not need chemicals on their skin or in their hair! Some companies claim their products are safe, but they disguise chemicals by calling them other things that normal, everyday people don’t recognize are being harmful.
Before reviewing the products to try for my daughter, I went onto the website and viewed their ingredient list for each product (which Megan has conveniently created a tab for on EACH product!) to be sure that what I was reviewing was truly chemical free and safe. Now, don’t be confused by the long names in the ingredients lists on the items. I did manually type in the ingredients that I couldn’t figure out and read about each one. For instance, Saccharide Isomerate is an emollient and the Cosmetic Database considers it 100% safe, and Dehydroacetic Acid is a fungicide, which is essential in anything in which you are adding water into. No one wants to be spraying mold on their child’s head! Icky!!
Another thing that I really loved about the website is that you can click on the “Ingredients” tab on the home page, and it will bring you to a page that lists all the horrid things that are in conventional baby/child products and when you click on the specific ingredient, it will tell you why it is bad for your child. You also get a handy book in your order as well which also has a description of all of the harmful chemicals in conventional products and why they are bad. For example, it states that parabens (cheap preservatives) in baby/children products can have an adverse effect on the male reproductive system. Do you really want to use these things on your babies?
Now onto the fabulous products I tried for my 3 yr old daughter. Emmaleigh has fine hair that has a little curl at the ends. I don’t know what she does most days to her hair, but often by the end of the day she will have this big wad of knots in the back of her head. This is also in addition to food in the front of her hair from her hair getting in her mouth when she eats!
Since using the Hot Tot conditioning detangler after baths, its no longer a struggle to comb through her hair when its wet. I spritz it all over her head and immediately after spraying I am able to brush through it with no issues. Some other brands I’ve tried I’ve had to let it set on her head for a minute or so before brushing. This spray does get her hair pretty damp, so after brushing, I just towel dry it a little more and she’s ready for the next step…the Sweet Pea serum!
Sweet Pea Serum is actually a cream based product that you massage into the hair while its wet and then brush. I just put a small pump in the palm of my hand and rub my hands together, smooth over the hair and rub it all in and brush again. It helps to remove frizz from the curl and I’ve noticed it does an excellent job at taming fly-aways as well. Now when her hair dries, it looks nice and calm, not like she’s a wild child!
I am so excited to have found this product line because I can put these products on my daughter, and my baby to be, and not worry about what I am putting on them. I will be getting the Spotless Tot to use once the baby is born. It is both a hair and body cleaner. All of the products are also formulate with a special customized scent which is pthalate free as well! Pthalates are not only said to contribute to male reproductive issues but it may also cause premature puberty in little girls. Definitely something to stay FAR away from!
I am very excited to say that Megan, the wonderful owner of Hot Tots has offered to give one 8 oz bottle of the conditioning detangler ($12.75 value) away to one of our readers since I love it so much!!
I can guarantee that once you try this product, you will want to buy the other items as well. I cannot wait to order more things for my daughter and the new baby!
