I’m a big fan of subscription boxes. Surprises in the mail each month? I live for surprises in the mail! I also love food. I own my fat kid status with enthusiasm. But you know what? Sometimes it’s better to be a healthy kid. I know that’s certainly the kind of kid that I’m trying to raise. I’ve thought for a long time that subscription food boxes are an excellent way to introduce children to interesting foods in an exciting way. Healthy Surprise box provides just what it says… a healthy surprise.
I received a Starter Box to review, which contains 16-20 servings and is meant for 2 people. There’s also two other sizes – The Healthy box (32-40 servings, for 1-4 people) and The Large Box (48-60 servings, for 2-6 people). My box came with tons of really cool, yummy treats.
All of the snacks in each Healthy Surprise box are all natural, REAL foods. They are vegan, gluten free, soy free, and contain no MSG, GMOs, or common allergens like dairy, egg, or shellfish. (Some do contain nuts though. Healthy proteins!) Some (but not all, unfortunately) of the items will be organic. They’re all full-sized portions of delicious, healthy snacks.
I don’t follow any particular diet or have any restrictions, but it was nice to know that the food I was eating from this box was clean, healthy, and nutritious. Every single ingredient on every single item was a REAL food ingredient. No crazy chemicals and unpronounceable craziness. Just real food.
My box contained a little bit of everything, and my whole family found something they liked from it. Garrett slurped on Smooth pouch with great enthusiasm. He’s such an adventurous little eater. He also really liked the Mango Acai premium fruit snacks, which were just like the homemade fruit rolls up my mom used to make with our food dehydrator when I was a kid. (Except way better. Sorry, Mom.) These were probably my favorite too. Several of the items were spicy. Lots of chipotle and cayenne flavors, which Danny really appreciated. I personally loved the abundance of dates in these snacks. I love the texture and substance of dates and they’re not something I eat often.
As mentioned above, there’s three different boxes you can order depending on how many snacks you want. The boxes are $33, $66, and $99 a month, respectively, and you can join through the Healthy Surprise website. Like most boxes, you’re billed each month and the boxes ship automatically. These boxes can even be shipped internationally!!
