We were recently given the opportunity to review some products from Earth Mama Angel Baby and I was very eager to try them out! As a new mom, I blindly used the standard baby products that everyone receives. You know which ones I’m talking about. The ones that instantly make you think “brand new baby” every time you catch a whiff of their distinctive, but classic fragrances. The ones that score a four and five on EWG’s Skin Deep Database for contamination concerns, irritation, organ system toxicity, and endocrine disruption. Another classic favorite is no better, if not worse.
I soon found myself seeking out better, more natural products for my son’s baths. We tried a few brands, but what I found lacking in all of them was a pleasant, lasting scent on my son’s skin. I know that “fragrance” is something to be avoided on packaging ingredient lists, because due to its vagueness, including artifical ingredients and carcinogenic phthalates, as well as being added to mask the addition potentially dangerous and toxic chemicals and preservatives. But this does not mean that you have to give up smelling nice in order to bathe safely!
Earth Mama Angel Baby’s soaps, shampoos, and lotions comes in many pleasant scents including natural vanilla orange, calming lavender, and a special scent for mama’s – ginger grapefruit. Garrett and I had the opportunity to try out the natural vanilla orange scented lotion and shampoo & body wash, and we were VERY pleased with the result – a clean, sweet smelling little boy! Even his feet, which let me tell you, are pretty putrid. I have no idea how one tiny, cute little boy can have such wretched smelling feet. It’s unbelievable. But this stuff helps immensely.
And look at their promises. Stuff you can trust.
I love, love, love their foaming shampoo & body wash. This bottles contains over 300 pumps. I found myself using 3-5 pumps per bath, which means this bottle could easily last you at least a year. At $9.95 for the 5.3 oz bottles, it’s well worth the price.
I expressed some concern to a representative of Earth Mama Angel Baby over the irritation to my son’s eyes while washing his hair with Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash. My response was as follows:
“It’s true, Earth Mama’s NSF/ANSI 305 Certified Contains Organic Oils Shampoo and Body Washes are not a “tear free” formula. Earth Mama’s top priority is to make safe, effective products, the purest way we know how. Because this is pure castile soap we do recommend that you’re careful around those precious baby eyes but we think it’s worth it knowing that you’re using a safe, hospital recommended product that rates a “0” on the esteemed Skin Deep Database. Check out Mama’s Reading Room or more information on Soap vs. Detergent.”
I suppose that is a fair enough trade for having to be a little more careful when bathing my baby. I do have to add, that while he was upset when the soap got in his eyes, there was no lasting redness or irritation. Just some fussies. The self foaming bottle really helps to control where the soap goes though, as it won’t run or drip. Just be careful while rinsing.
After Garrett’s bath, I give him a nice massage with the Angel Baby Lotion. He loves this part! Like his mama, he gets very dry skin, especially on his legs. This lotion absolutely does the trick for keeping his skin soft and smooth. He especially likes when I rub a little extra on his stinky feet. (And cracks up every time I smell like and tell him how bad they stink. Typical boy.)
I expected the vanilla orange to be reminiscent of a creamsicle, but honestly, it’s not. It has none of the artificial scent you might expect, and smells of fresh orange peels and pure, sweet vanilla, thanks to organic essentials oils. It’s also made with organic rooibos, which is soothing for many skin irritations including diaper rash, eczema, and skin allergies.
In addition to soaps and lotions, Earth Mama Angel Baby offers many other products for mothers and babies including those for pregnancy care, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding support, and baby loss comfort.
