A huge thanks to WallQuotes.com by Belvedere Designs for the vinyl wall quotes I received to facilitate this review and for graciously offering a wall quote as a giveaway for one of my readers!
As you may already know, we just moved to a new place. It’s not a considerably larger than our old place, but it’s an entirely different layout. The old place was what I think of as being a pretty standard apartment layout. Living room in one half of a big room, kitchen on the other, bedrooms to the sides and a bathroom in the middle. The new place is a townhouse with an additional room in the front that we still don’t know what to do with since we don’t really do dining rooms. But beside that, we also don’t know what to do with all of this additional wall space. And since it’s a rental, we can’t paint, so there’s a LOT of big empty white walls. Garrett and I have been making some art for the walls, but what has really helped the space are vinyl wall decals from WallQuotes.com.
I received two surprise decals from Wall Quotes by Belvedere Designs, and they chose fantastically. This is probably because all of their decals are really versatile and will look great in just about anyone’s home. Many of them are customizable as well! I was really excited about putting up my decals, but I was a little nervous too. I’ve learned the hard way that you really only get one shot with these things. We had a tree in Garrett’s first nursery in our old home, and we tried to take it with us, but it did not survive the trip. You can’t really move these things once you’ve placed them, so it’s important to take your time and be precise. Luckily, Belvedere Designs makes it really easy.
The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. They suggest taping it with masking tape, and then checking to be sure it’s straight with a level. I, of course, could not find my level because my toddler thinks all mama’s toys are his toys, so I eyeballed it. It’s only slightly crooked…. Meh. Anyways, the masking tape part is important, because you will use it as a hing when you remove the backing paper. So after rubbing all over with a squeegee, you lift it up, remove the backing paper and then fold the decal back down.
Then you use the “squeegee” (which looks like a credit card and doubles as a business card) to rub the decal all over again. This step is really, really important. This is what adheres your vinyl decal to the wall. You need to work from the middle outwards to get any bubbles out, but I also needed to rub each letter individually because my walls are fairly textured. Then you start peeling the top paper off in a 180 degree downward motion. This is definitely the most time consuming part, but it’s not difficult or overly taxing unless you’re standing on a ladder or on the back of your couch or something. It’s just good to be aware that this is going to take some time and patience. I needed to vigorously rub each letter individually while I slowly peeled off the paper. For a really large decal, this could really be a lot of work, but I feel that it’d be worth it. My decal looks fantastic with zero signs of peeling or bubbling.
We also got one for the bathroom, which was much quicker and easier to apply because the letters were not as elaborate of a font. Danny says it really does help him to remember to wash his hands. Ha.
