Yummi Pouch Review

Garrett and I recently had the pleasure of reviewing Yummi Pouch reusable food pouches! Even though at 16 months old and eating more solid foods than me on some occasions, Garrett loves baby food from a pouch. When we go to the grocery store, I always let him pick out his own pouch as a nice snack, but at $1-2 a pouch, that can get expensive. I would certainly not be able to afford to feed him pouches on a regular basis! But now that we’ve found Yummi Pouches, I can give Garrett his little treat on a far more regular basis. Every day in fact!

Garrett literally freaks out every time he sees one of these pouches and can barely wait to get his hands on them. I don’t know what it is, since he doesn’t get this excited for a bowl of applesauce. Something about a pouch is just so much exciting for him. And I’m excited about how much money I’m saving by using reusable pouches. You can purchase a set of 4 Yummi Pouch Brights for $14.99 or a set of 6 clear Yummi Pouches for the same price. Let’s do some math! Say you opt for the beautiful bright colored yummi pouches, and purchase applesauce in bulk for roughly $2.75 for a 48 oz container. This will fill your pouches 8 times. (Which means washing and reusing each pouch once). You’d be paying approximately $2.20 per pouch. However, buy another jar of applesauce, and fill each pouch two more times, and now you’ve spent $1.28 per pouch. For most pouches I buy, this about the same price. Which means the very next time you wash and fill your pouches, the pouches start paying for themselves. (This means filling 16 pouches. If you give your child a pouch every day, this would take just over 2 weeks.) After that, it’s just the price of the applesauce, which if you remember, has enough to fill your pouches 8 times. This means each pouch is just 34 cents each! I challenge you to find cheaper pouches! You can also fill them with yogurt, smoothies, homemade purees, and more!!
I was a little worried about washing these, since Danny takes care of most of the dishes and doesn’t appreciate a challenge. They’re SO easy though! Just open the pouch at the zipper, and slide over the spokes on the top rack of your dishwasher, or wash by hand. I rinse mine out for Danny, and the gunk rinses right our the spout. Easy peasy.
My favorite, favorite, favorite feature though? The caps. Yes, really. They’re compatible with other pouch caps, so if you lose one, you don’t have to worry! If you’re Crazy McCrazy Pants like me, you’ve probably saved a stash of old pouch caps anyways. (Why? I don’t really know. I feel like I can come up with something fun to do with them someday. I save the tops from wipe packages for some future project too. What? Don’t look at me like that.)
