Thanks so much to BABYBJÖRN for providing me with the Travel Crib Light 2 for my honest opinion.
Chances are, you’re one of thousands traveling this holiday season. And if you’re reading this blog, chances are you’re a parent, so you’re probably traveling with a TON of baby gear. How is it that our little ones need SO MUCH stuff to take them anywhere? Their own special food, cups, chairs, entertainment, sleeping arrangements… and all of it is HUGE. We used to be able to travel so light when it was just the two of us. Now our trunk and backseat are literally packed even just for an overnight. One of the biggest, most cumbersome, yet most important travel items for families can be the portable crib. When you’re staying in hotels and other people’s houses, it’s vital that your baby has a safe place to sleep, relax, and play in a confined space if need be, but traditional “pack and play” style beds are so heavy, hard to transport, and even harder to set up.
The BABYBJÖRN Travel Light Crib 2 is so much different. The first thing you’ll notice is that it’s an entirely shape and structure than you’re probably used to. The Travel Light Crib looks a lot like a thin suitcase and carries with a handle on top. It’s also weighs a mere 11 lbs. Other travel cribs typically weigh anywhere from 20 to as much as 30 lbs!
Now it’s time to open it up. This is where it gets really exciting. BABYBJÖRN has made the process of setting up this travel crib a cinch. It’s literally just one, simple movement! You really have to see it to believe it, so check out the video below. Even a grandmother can set this up in half a minute! I’ve never successfully set up one of those “pack and play” type beds on the first try, even!
And that’s it! Your travel crib is ready to go! The mesh sides allow you to see your child easily and ensure their safety. The mattress has a built in base that keeps the crib sturdy. You can see that the bottom of the crib is slightly wider than the top, which together with the firm mattress base, ensures that the crib will not tip. (Don’t worry – the mattress is not difficult to get into the narrower top. Just place in at a slight angle while still folded, and then open it up)
You’ll notice that the mattress is very close to the floor, which at first made made me nervous that if placed on a cold floor, it’d cause the baby to get cold as well. However, unlike other travel cribs, the BABYBJÖRN mattress is much thicker. (Have you noticed how thin and hard those things are? Not comfy at all. The BABYBJÖRN mattress seems so luxurious in comparison!)
See how thick this mattress is?! Also, all materials that come in close contact with your baby’s skin have been tested and approved in accordance with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1 for baby products. They are guaranteed to be harmless to children’s sensitive skin and will not trigger allergies. The organic cotton fitted sheet complies with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), internationally the most recognized standard for organic manufacturing. I’s machine washable and feels softer and softer after each wash. I wish I had these sheets on my bed!
When your done with your travel crib, it’s nearly as easy to take down as it is to set up. I do have to share though, that I left this travel crib at my grandmother’s house for Garrett, and when his father picked him up, they had a hard time taking it down. I swear I left them the instructions!! It’s easy though, I promise. Simply remove the mattress and place inside the bag then flip the crib upside down, and pull slightly on each leg to release them, then fold inward. After all four legs are folded in on the diagonal, fold the whole crib in half, and place inside the mattress (which is already in the bag.) Zip it up, and you can travel with your crib or store it easily.
