Perfect Gift Guide: The Gift That Keeps On Giving Krista C October 30, 2016 Parenting It’s that time of the year again. We’re all beginning to write lists and think about what we should get our kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, godchildren… the list goes on. We’re going with a gift that keeps on giving this year. For the past four years my cousin has been in college. He’ll be the second person in our entire family to graduate. I am proud that he’s second behind me. I always thought that his grandparent’s gifts were horrible when I in my 20s. They’d bring savings bonds and various other forms of proof that they’d been saving for his future. But, when he went to college to begin his journey to becoming a doctor those paper gifts didn’t seem so boring – they paid for nearly his entire first year of college. Now imagine if everyone in the family had joined in and gotten him paper for his birthday, Christmas, Easter. He would have gotten through his entire first four years completely debt free. With four kids of our own and a hoard of family and friends with kids, it’s amazing to know that we can give this same gift – the gift that keeps on giving – to the children we love. Thanks to ScholarShare, we were able to spend the last 6 months learning about the 529 College Savings plan. ScholarShare has provided page upon page of information about how you, family and friends can invest in the future of children around you. If you’re a grandparent or other family member, Scholarshare has provided a great step-by-step guide on how you can get started and contribute. Why give a gift that will always give? Here’s a little list… Encourage family and friends to pursue education. Reduce debt. Influence future generations. Truly give a gift that will be the foundation of their lives. Encourage people you love to follow their passion. There are so many reasons why my cousin’s grandparents had it right. They didn’t have the coolest gift at the party that he doesn’t remember anyway, but he DOES remember that they provided him with the opportunity he is currently living and will never forget.
